Upton Estate

The National Hunt stud and the racing yard are very much an integral part of the Estate.

The stud was set up in 2001 with the objective of producing top class National Hunt horses. We only have space for 10 mares, and are constantly seeking to improve the quality of the mares, both in terms of their pedigrees and their own performance on the track. Whilst we focus on developing our own bloodlines, we also occasionally buy in new mares based on their pedigree, performance and conformation.

After the stud and before the racing we do as much pre-training preparation as possible so that our young stock are as physically and mentally prepared for training as possible.

The racing yard is home to up to 10 National Hunt and Point-to-Point horses varying from youngsters at the very beginning of their careers to older horses, often returning from injury. Our ambitions are to win the very top races for amateur trainers and jockeys, from the Point-to-Point classics to the Foxhunters races at Cheltenham and Aintree. In recent years we have been lucky enough to train the winners of two Foxhunters at Aintree, as well as beating the professionals in the Becher Chase, also over the Aintree fences. Our ambition is now to win the, so far elusive, Cheltenham Foxhunters prize.
