Here at Upton, woodland is restored and carefully managed to help benefit wildlife and protect and strengthen the local landscape and character of the Estate. The 300 year old Spanish chestnuts planted in the park have been left standing, and act as hosts to a multitude of insect species. Semi-natural indicators of ancient woodland, such as; Bluebells, Goldilocks Buttercup and Yellow Archangel can all be found throughout the 300 acres of woodland. To help achieve more of this, we have prepared a woodland management plan in line with the Higher Level Countryside Stewardship scheme. Put simply, woodland is regularly thinned and pruned. This by-product will then be used as fuel for the Estate's biomass boiler, which will provide heat for the new industrial units.
