Upton Estate

Delivering the balance - food for us, food for wildlife

Research and Trial Work
In 2003 with the help of the Wildlife Farming Company (WFC) – a specialist business dedicated to on farm environmental delivery and research, Upton Farm became a demonstration farm. Visitors to Upton have come from a wide range of organisations. DEFRA, Natural England, farmers, and scientists have all been shown round and attended training courses.

Professor David Bellamy has also visited and given his support to the work. Several press articles have featured the Upton work and its expanding range of Wildlife and habitats.

Upton has provided a home for various environmental research and trials work to the likes of DEFRA, Earthwatch and Jordan’s Cereals.

In 2005 a whole farm environmental audit was started by a scientist from The Centre of Ecology and Hydrology recording all flora and fauna providing the Estate access to a valuable data set.

In 2007, Estate Manager Rob Allan was nominated for the Farmers Weekly Awards – and later became a finalist for ‘Countryside Farmer of the year’ – thus rewarding the Estate for all their conservation farming aims.

The following video by Earthwatch demostrates Uptons' involvement with its Youth Program and gives an insight into the purpose of the associated research
